Welcome to Pelham, New Hampshire

New Pelham LibraryWith good proximity to I-93 and within the vicinity of area mall traffic, Pelham is ideally situated for commerce spanning both New Hampshire and Massachusetts, its bordering neighbor. Many Massachusetts shoppers visit its main business area on Rt.38 in addition to local retailers in adjacent Salem. Yet, Pelham is still rural and attractive. The town center looks much as it did in the 1800's, and the library grounds are renovated with an engraved brick walkway. The recent 250th Anniversary Celebration and Library Centennial in 1996 have fostered community pride.

Pelham has a solid school department and an excellent parochial school, thriving town government, an active library, good recreational facilities and public beaches, strong police and fire departments, admirable senior citizen involvement, and spirited local cable television programs. It continues to see a healthy share of new homes, and has attracted several new businesses.

Town HallPelham High School provides experiences, which enable students to achieve long-term educational independence and prepares them to contribute to a world in which life long learning is essential. Their most recent SAT scores are: Math 459 and Verbal 490. The percent of students who attend post secondary 4-year colleges is 52% with another 20% attending two-year programs.

Residents interested in community involvement can choose from the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, a Masonic Temple, a PTA, Friends of the Library, St. Patrick's Women's Guild, Friends of Recreation, Odyssey of the Mind, Junior Friends of the Library, a Gardener's Group, a Chess Club, the Chamber's Business Network and many more local programs.

Congegational churchPelham is a friendly, lively, close-knit community with room for many interests. Activities include an annual Old Home Day event, held in September. Old Home Day attracts thousands of people from all over the region. This town-wide event boasts crafts, auctions, activities, a parade, rides and games, performances, and food. It is quintessential New England fare. Two other annual events are the St. Patrick's School Fair in May, and the Sherburne School Fair held in December. The annual Friends of the Library book sale is reaching the quarter of a century mark and the Lions Club haunted hayride is a yearly happening.

Pelham is a people community with a spirit of independence and a sense of history, yet it also is on the cutting edge of the future with a significant presence on the World Wide Web. Pelham has every reason to be proud - it's Yankee to the core.
