Welcome to Londonderry, New Hampshire
Londonderry’s enviable location about 12 miles north of the Massachusetts border and eight miles from the commerce center of Manchester gives the town a strategic location. Easy road and air access, combined with the largest area of undeveloped industrially zoned land in southern New Hampshire, has made Londonderry a magnet for industrial and commercial growth in the state.
The continued expansion of the Manchester Airport on the Manchester/Londonderry border has fueled Londonderry’s development as an economic and industrial center for southern New Hampshire. A significant portion of the nearly 1,000 acres surrounding the airport that were designated a U.S. Foreign Trade Zone lies in the town, making the site ideal for companies involved in international trade.
In the face of continuing commercial growth, Londonderry has initiated a program to preserve its rural quality of life. A key component of this plan is the state’s first ecological industrial park, located near Manchester Airport. The park is designed to attract industries that are environmentally conscious and want to minimize their impact on the environment.
Other elements in the plan include a Growth Management Ordinance to cap the number of building permits available each year. The town is one of nine municipalities nationwide becoming ISO 14001 certified to make sure that the products and service its public works department delivers are done in an ecologically sound manner. And Londonderry is committed to buying the development rights of major apple orchards in town, ensuring these properties remain in agricultural use. In addition, the town has established an official scenic and cultural byway called The Apple Way. Visitors can tour five local orchards through an interpretive program, which incorporates the history of the town with fruit picking, hayrides and other fun activities. The road trip is especially enjoyable during foliage or apple blossom seasons.
Londonderry’s dedication to preserving its quality of life while encouraging an expanding business base has made it a particularly popular home for newcomers to the area. With a wide array of housing options including older Colonial and Victorian homes, new single-family homes, condominiums and apartments, Londonderry is prepared for the residential growth that its robust economy is providing.
